History

Experience from one generation to another.

The roots date back to the 1930s, when Ari Saukko's father Jaakko Einar started transportation operations in Tampere. Initially, freight transports were carried out using a 1936 Ford truck, and taxi services were provided using a 1938 Packard passenger car.

Transportation activities were interrupted during the Winter and Continuation Wars, as the Defense Forces, as a common practice, requisitioned civilian transportation equipment for military needs. With a special permit he applied for, Jaakko Einar was allowed to operate his own truck during the war, transporting crucial war and food supplies in the Karelian Isthmus region. After the war concluded, the truck was returned to Jaakko Einar, and transportation operations could resume.

After relocating to Isojoki in Ostrobothnia, Jaakko Einar continued his business by transporting materials such as earth and paper wood to Vaasa Harbor.

In the 1950s, Jaakko Einar initiated regular freight line traffic on the Vaasa-Jyväskylä-Vaajakoski route. During that time, the cargo mainly consisted of food products transported from the coast to Central Finland. On the return trips to Ostrobothnia, various industrial products from Vaajakoski were transported.

As time went on, the operations expanded, and the fleet included domestic Sisu and Vanaja trucks. This marked the formation of J.E. Saukko Transport Company."

toward modern logistics

The youngest of Jaakko Einar's sons, Ari Saukko, later continued the transportation operations through his own company, Oy Arisaukko Ab, which was established in 1986. This marked the formation of the Saukko Group corporate group. Initially, Oy Arisaukko Ab offered thermotransport services abroad as well as hanging garment transport services both domestically and internationally.

Established in 1987, Seinäjoen Saukko Oy provided dry, refrigerated, and frozen storage services, forwarding, and distribution in the Seinäjoki economic area. In 1990, Jääsaukko Oy was founded as part of the Saukko Group, offering storage services in Tampere, Vantaa, and Turku. Jääsaukko also provided frozen transport and distribution services.

In 1992, Ou Arisaukko Baltica Ltd was established as part of the Saukko Group, offering similar services in the Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

In 2005, Jääsaukko began developing more environmentally friendly freezing and frozen storage solutions. In 2008, the frozen logistics center in Lempäälä was completed, becoming Northern Europe's first facility to use carbon dioxide as a refrigerant, setting a technical precedent in its field.

In the 2010s, Saukko Group expanded into local and regional distribution operations, operated by Citysaukko Oy. The acquisition of Jääholvi Oy in Masku complemented the storage service offerings in the Southwest Finland region.

Today, Saukko Group is a strong player specialized in food logistics, providing high-quality logistics services and comprehensive solutions both domestically and internationally.
